We will miss the gentle strength of our beloved father, grandfather and husband. Don Lyon was born in Eaton Rapids, Michigan to Ed and Dorothy Lyon on March 29, 1935. The family, including Don’s younger brother Ted moved close to Mason Michigan, where they settled into their family farm of about 40 acres. Don’s dad had a full-time job as well as keeping up with the farm so chores became a way of life for Don. Hs grandpa Ernie and Uncle Walt were part of the extended family and were influential in his early love of fishing and hunting.

Don started his education in a one-room schoolhouse where he earned his well-deserved reputation as life-long helper hauling wood and pumping water. Don went into high school where he played linebacker and center in football and catcher and right field in baseball. Don started at the University of Michigan ~ “Go Blue” ~ and married his first wife Mary with whom he had his first son John, both of whom later predeceased him.

Upon attaining a B.A. in Education and an Administrative Credential Don began his twenty-five year career in the Ann Arbor schools as a teacher and a principal. He and his second wife, Shari Lyon had their twin sons Casey and Justin and their daughter Myia Joy in Michigan before moving to Escondido, California.
